OpenAI introduced Agent Plugins—an open standard for reusing a single plugin across different compatible AI agents. The common format combines agent skills and MCP server configurations—the protocol through which models connect to tools and data.

The standard was developed jointly with AWS, Cursor, GitHub, Microsoft, and Vercel. At launch, Agent Plugins are supported by Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Kiro, and VS Code.
