OpenAI has simplified the process of obtaining high usage limits for its API, which will facilitate scaling for developers.
Previously, there were five paid usage tiers, which are now reduced to three: Build, Launch, and Grow. This significantly simplifies navigation and understanding of the pricing plans for developers.
The highest tier—Grow—can now be obtained with a total payment amount of $500, which is a significant reduction compared to the previous requirement of $1,000. Users will not need to take any action, as the system will automatically migrate all paid customers to the new, simplified tier.
Why it matters
- —Lowered financial barrier to access maximum API limits.
- —Simplifying the pricing structure (from 5 to 3 tiers) improves the developer user experience.
- —Automatic user transition minimizes the risk of disruptions when conditions change.
Key facts
- The number of paid tiers has been reduced from five to three (Build, Launch, Grow).
- The new highest tier is called Grow.
- Qualification for the Grow tier now requires a $500 payment (down from $1,000).
- Changes will happen automatically for all paid users.
